Former National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md. Abdur Rahman Khan has been appointed on a contractual basis as the Alternate Executive Director for Bangladesh’s constituency at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, D.C., USA.
He has been appointed to the position for a period of three years. The information was disclosed in a notification issued on Sunday, August 23, by the Contract and Foreign Employment Branch of the Ministry of Public Administration.
According to the notification signed by Deputy Secretary Md. Golam Rabbani, Md. Abdur Rahman Khan has been appointed as the Alternate Executive Director for Bangladesh’s constituency at the World Bank headquarters in Washington. The appointment will remain effective for three years from the date he assumes office.
The notification further states that the appointment has been made on the condition that his post-retirement leave and related benefits will remain suspended. He will also be required to relinquish any professional or business activities, as well as any employment relationship with government, semi-government or private institutions or organizations. Other terms and conditions of the appointment, issued in the public interest, will be determined through the employment contract.
Md. Abdur Rahman Khan assumed office as Chairman of the NBR and Secretary of the Internal Resources Division (IRD) on August 14, 2024. He retired from the position in June 2026 after completing the regular tenure of his government service.
Abdur Rahman Khan obtained his Bachelor’s (Honours) and Master’s degrees in Accounting from the University of Dhaka. He later earned a professional degree from the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) and obtained the FCMA qualification.
He was a 13th-batch officer of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Tax) cadre.
